KITTY!

MAINTENANCE INFO

Please do your research about the breed of kitten you are looking to make a forever commitment to.  Persians are known for their quiet, docile, loving & gentle personalities, besides their obvious beauty.  Please take into consideration that these type of cats require frequent grooming to keep their coats healthy and beautiful.  They also need occasional baths which is not a big deal when they are taught this at a young age.  My kittens get their first bath at 4 weeks of age and every 2 weeks there after.

Also for grooming, on ebay you can purchase a cat sack for bathing.  I have found it very affective in using for that not so willing cat.  I purchased the med size.  It supports the cat well, having zippers & valcro for letting down thier paws if needed.  It also has mesh netting for allowing the water to flow out during the rinsing.

RECIPES & TIPS

(These are Recipes & Tips I've been given.   I haven't tried all of them yet.)
(They're here to try if you choose.)

I use equine pellets from Tractor Supply for cat litter, it has no dust, asorbs & breaks down for easy removal & is very cost affective.

HEALTH INFO

Why spay or neuter your pet? Click here to find out more.

I do have a spay/neuter agreement for all kittens (even breeder/show quality) being placed in pet homes.  My pet kittens must be spayed or neutered by 6 months old  (I will make some exceptions), CFA registration papers will be given when I receive proof (veterinary letter) that the kitty has been spayed/neutered.  Please look at this link above.  It is best for all pet cats/kittens not part of a breeding program to be altered.  They will be much happier companions!  If you decide you want breeding rights within the 6 months, I may give them for an additional fee.

PKD is a disease in which cysts develop within the kidneys.  It is common in Persians & Exotic shorthairs.  My conclusion after reading articles & talking with breeders is that a cat/kitten who is a carrier of this gene has no predetermined time in the stage of their life in which they will develop it.  I've heard of cats with the gene living out ripe old ages.  I have provided a link which gives information on PKD...  Please read all you can about this disease so you can come to an informative decision, even if it differs from mine.
POLYCYSTIC KIDNEY DISEASE

Ringworm is a fungus that is common in Persians.  I always ask buyers to please quarantine their new kitten/cat for two weeks before letting it have run of the house, or before being submitted to other family pets.  If a kitten/cat is to break out with ringworm due to the stress of a new environment they usually do so within 2weeks...  I'm aware of ringworm & take careful measures by quarantining any new cats/kittens I bring into my cattery & have any kitten/cats checked before leaving.  Its just a safe practice & makes it easier if there was to be an outbreak to treat.  Here is a link that is very informative about ringworm & how to treat it.
